CRAWFORD COUNTY, Ga. — Two Georgia police officers were shot early Monday morning while serving a search warrant.

At about 2:30 a.m., the officers, who are part of a multi-county drug task force, were serving a warrant at a home along Georgia Highway 42 when the shooting occurred.

After knocking on the door repeatedly, the officers entered the residence and a suspect opened fire, according to FOX 5. During the gun fight, officers returned fire and killed the 35-year-old male suspect.

Both officers were taken to the hospital. One was treated and released while the other is in serious condition and will undergo surgery. Both are expected to recover.

Authorities say the suspect’s girlfriend and baby were inside the home when the shooting occurred. Neither person was injured.

The investigation is ongoing.
