Convicted man on loose after not returning to NC courtroom

RALEIGH, N.C. – A Wake County District Attorney said a man who was on trial last week did not return to the court room after a break during jury deliberations.

WTVD reported that the jury convicted Rodney Veney, 43, of 3 counts of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.

Authorities are now searching for him. He was out on bond before the trial. Veney cannot be sentenced until he is taken into custody.

Veney was charged in May 2015 with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, first degree burglary, and conspiracy breaking and entering.
