GREENSBORO, N.C. -- A portion of West Friendly Avenue is closed because of an apartment fire.

The fire was reported at 5:40 p.m. in a vacant apartment at 1013 W. Friendly Ave., officials said.

The Greensboro Fire Department quickly brought the fire under control, containing the fire to a single apartment, but the fire equipment is blocking West Friendly Avenue.

Traffic is being diverted onto North Mendenhall Street.

There is no word in when the road will reopen.
