1 dead, another critically injured after shooting at Greensboro apartment

GREENSBORO, N.C. — One woman is dead and another victim is in critical condition after a shooting at a Greensboro apartment, according to Greensboro police.

Ashley Renee Cozart, 26, of Greensboro, has been pronounced dead in the incident, Greensboro police said in a press release.

Officers responded to 900 Lowdermilk St., Apartment J, shortly before 10:30 p.m. Wednesday in reference to a report of a person having been shot there.

Cozart was pronounced dead at the scene. Another unidentified victim was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and is currently in critical condition.

Based on preliminary information developed in the investigation, it is believed that the victims knew their assailant and that this was not a random act, according to a police press release.

Police are currently interviewing witnesses and following leads. The investigation is ongoing.
