Teen charged in Randolph County shooting

RANDOLPH COUNTY, N.C. — A teen has been charged in connection with a shooting over the weekend in Randolph County.

Cole Steele Jessup, 17, is charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, according to a news release from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office.

On Saturday, an ATV operator was flagged down by a driver heading down N.C. 22 from the Bennett area towards Coleridge.

The driver, a 21-year-old man, said he had been shot and needed help.

The ATV operator called 911 and deputies and EMS responded to the scene.

The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound to the chest area, the release said. On Monday, the victim had surgery and is currently in stable condition.

Following an investigation, Jessup was arrested and charged. He is currently confined in the Randolph County Jail under $250,000 secured bond.
