SALISBURY, N.C. — A 7-year-old North Carolina girl was killed and her grandmother was injured during a shooting early Sunday morning.
At about 4:20 a.m., police responded to a reported shooting on Harrel Street in Salisbury, according to WSOC. Upon arrival, they located A’yanna Allen and 56-year-old Shirley Robinson suffering from gunshot wounds.
Robinson was shot in the leg while the girl passed away at the home.
The 56-year-old woman said she and Allen were sleeping on the same bed when someone fired bullets through their bedroom window, striking both of them.
“That was a 7-year-old child,” she said. “Innocent. We were laying in the bed asleep. What are we going to be doing at 4 or 5 in the morning. We were asleep and here comes the devil.”
Robinson’s nephew was also in the house, but he was unharmed by the attack.
“She was a joyful child. A joyful child,” she said.
As of Monday morning, the motive is unknown and the investigation is ongoing.
