Salem College lockdown lifted after nearby home invasion
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Salem College was put on lockdown early Thursday morning due to a nearby home invasion.
At about 12:30 a.m., police received a home invasion call from a residence at 204 Maynard Drive near Kernersville Road. The suspects entered the residence and robbed it at gunpoint.
Winston-Salem police later spotted the suspect’s red pickup truck and got behind it on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive before attempting to stop it on Rams Drive near Salem College. Officers finally stopped the vehicle at Home Moravian Church on campus.
Police arrested 25-year-old Donovan John Schlachter, 26-year-old Santion Antonio Bracero and 18-year-old Mario Gina Bracero. Four additional suspects fled the car and have not been located.
While searching for the suspects, Salem College law enforcement asked students to shelter in place.
The lockdown, which lasted about an hour, has since been lifted.
The investigation is ongoing.
