CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A series of severe storms tracked from Greenville, South Carolina through Charlotte Wednesday evening, damaging some homes and knocking down trees, according to WSOC.
The National Weather Service confirmed a an EF1 tornado touched down in southwest Charlotte. An EF1 tornado produces wind speeds between 86 to 110 miles per hour.
The NWS said the tornado was 100 to 150 yards wide and produced damage in two segments. The total path of the tornado was a little more than two miles.
The first segment of damage ran along the 1200 block of John Price Road to the northeast part of the Ayrsley subdivision. The path length was 1.68 miles, the NWS said.
The second segment of damage occurred from 8500 Microsoft Way to West Arrowood Road. The path lenght was about 0.5 miles. The NWS said one person was hurt during the tornado.
