Winston-Salem man accused of shooting, killing man during argument
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A Winston-Salem man was arrested and charged Monday morning after he allegedly shot and killed a man during an argument, according to a press release.
On Nov. 11, officers responded to a location on Barbara Jane Avenue near Apollo Drive. Upon arrival, officers located 36-year-old Acara Goldsmith suffering from a gunshot wound to the stomach. He was taken to the hospital where he later died.
Police say 34-year-old Billy Jackson Simmons III turned himself early Monday morning. An investigation determined that Simmons shot Goldsmith during a dispute.
He is charged with murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was taken to the Forsyth County Detention Center and is being held without bond.
The investigation is ongoing.
This was the City of Winston-Salem’s 22nd homicide in 2016 and the investigation is ongoing.
