1 injured in shooting at hotel in Davie County

ADVANCE, N.C. — A West Virginia man who was participating in drag racing activities in Davie County is behind bars after deputies say he shot one person he was traveling with, according to a press release.

Deputies responded to the Hampton Inn at 196 NC-801 in Advance around 10 a.m. Sunday in reference to shots fired. Upon arrival, they discovered 52-year-old Paul Ridgeway suffering from a gunshot wound.

Ridgeway was taken to a hospital in Winston-Salem and is in stable condition.

Deputies say Ridgeway, primary suspect Nicholas Harris, 33, and unidentified third person were traveling together to participate in various drag races when the incident occurred.

The victim was shot in his hotel room while he was sleeping. Authorities arrested the Harris in the hotel lobby.

He is charged with attempted murder and is in the Davie County Detention Center under a $175,000 bond.

The investigation is ongoing.
