RALEIGH, N.C. — The Raleigh Police Department tells WTVD a 22-year-old woman was killed just before 7 p.m. on Thanksgiving along Lynn Road near Battleford Drive.

In a report on the crash, investigators say Juana Maria Cardona Alvarez was headed south on Battleford in her Honda to turn left on Lynn and failed to see an oncoming Toyota before pulling in front of it.

Her car was hit from the side, killing her.

A passenger in her car, Hiroshi Arakawa, was seriously hurt.

In September 2015, the News and Observer featured Arakawa in a story. The newspaper reported he’s in Raleigh on a student visa to learn bluegrass and English.
