WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- An after-school program at Hanes Magnet School in Winston-Salem is helping young girls meet their full potential.

The program, which is called "Hanes Girls of Distinction," helps build the middle school girls' self-confidence, set career goals and expose them to opportunities.

More than anything, it allows them to talk with successful female professionals in historically male-dominated fields.

"I think it's really important, being a woman's group, to make sure that these girls understand they can do anything they want to as long as they put their mind to it," said one person involved in the program.
