Winston-Salem police looking for man accused of damaging vehicles, stealing van

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Police in Winston-Salem are looking for a man accused of damaging several vehicles and then stealing a van.

Winston-Salem police said officers responded to several reports of vehicles being damaged in the 200 block of Countryside Drive early Saturday morning.

Several residents reported hearing noises outside and witnessing the suspect damaging vehicles parked nearby.

The suspect was allegedly kicking vehicles and using a large piece of concrete to damage them. Police said the suspect damaged 13 vehicles in total.

Several residents ran outside and began to chase the suspect. The suspect allegedly ran to a 1998 silver Dodge Caravan parked nearby, which was unlocked and running due to the owner letting it warm up.

The suspect jumped into the driver’s seat of the unoccupied van and left, according to a police press release.

Police are still looking for the vehicle, which has a North Carolina license plate of PDX-4742.

The suspect is described as a black male in his 20s with facial hair wearing a gray sweatshirt and shorts.
