Deputies identify victim in Rockingham County homicide case

EDEN, N.C. – The Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a homicide after a man was found with an apparent gunshot wound.

Cornelius Montrell Clark, 23, of Eden, was pronounced dead after being taken to Morehead Hospital early Sunday morning.

Deputies responded to a crash reported by a citizen shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday on Harrington Highway near the NC 14 intersection in Eden.

Deputies and first responders found a silver Mercury Monterey van on the side of the road.

The victim was found a short distance from the van with an apparent gunshot wound to his upper torso. He was taken to the hospital where he died, according to the sheriff’s office.

The investigation is ongoing and Eden police and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol are assisting the sheriff’s office.
