Large wildfire in Ashe County destroys 125 acres

ASHE COUNTY, N.C. – Crews are on the scene of a large wildfire in Ashe County that started as a house fire and spread into the woods.

Several Ashe County crews are on the scene at Hwy 221 and Water Tank Road, along with crews from the Piedmont, including Randolph County.

The fire is 10 percent contained, according to a state forest service official.

The blaze is threatening 14 homes and nine structures. It’s destroyed 125 acres and could burn an estimated 425 acres by the time it’s contained.
