Popularity Of Nintendo's New Augmented Reality Game Pokemon Go Drives Company Stock Up

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — The 39-year-old man who was hospitalized early Tuesday morning was allegedly beaten while playing “Pokemon Go.”

At about 4:10 a.m., police responded to 770 Liberty View Court in reference to a man on the ground bleeding. Upon arrival, they discovered Vincent George Mannino lying face down with facial and head injuries, according to a press release. Other than the person who called in after seeing the man, police say they have no witnesses.

A post by Sloane Johnson in the “Pokemon Go Winston-Salem” Facebook group early Wednesday morning says that Mannino was attacked while playing the popular game on his phone. Friends in the group say the victim walked around every night playing the game.

Another friend in the group, Eric Johnson, says he visited Mannino in the hospital. Johnson says Mannino’s family does not expect him to suffer from any long-term damage caused by his injuries.

Police have not confirmed the story, but they did say they are investigating this as an assault. They also mentioned that Mannino was found without his phone.

A GoFundMe account was created to raised money to help Mannino and his family. The Pokemon Go Facebook group is also planning a number of events to raise money. Details on those can be found on their Facebook page.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at (336) 727-2800.
