SILVER SPRING, Md. -- A diverse church in Maryland was vandalized with a racist message over the weekend.
As members of the Episcopal Church of Our Savior made their way to church Sunday morning, they discovered the banner advertising its Spanish service was damaged and the words "Trump nation, whites only" written on the back, according to WDCW. The same message was also written in other places around the church.
"In the end, it is love that prevails over hatred, and with love, we will respond," said Mariann Edgar Budde, bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington.
After finding the message, the congregation and members of the community came together and wrote "Love wins" in various locations around the church.
"This is our land, this is our home, this is where our roots are," said Celina Benitez, a community member who helped clean up the vandalism. "Just to all the parents out there, I know there has been a lot of hate in schools and in the communities... I call out on them to talk to their kids because it`s a very vulnerable place. They are trying to figure out what's going on."
