DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. — A Ledford High School student has died following a car accident.

Mitchell Bruggner, 17, was involved in a car accident last weekend.

Bruggner passed away yesterday, according to Donna Stafford, Davidson County Schools chief public information officer.

“Superintendent Dr. Lory Morrow and the District extend its deepest sympathy to Mitchell’s family and friends in this time of loss,” the school district said in a statement Friday.

“The teachers and students were very much saddened by the news. Our focus is on supporting the family, students and staff members of Ledford High School,” the statement continued.

Guidance counselors, social workers and support staff will be on campus Monday to provide counseling and support for staff and students, according to Stafford.

The accident happened Saturday in the area of Hasty Hill Road at Will Johnson Road, according to a news release from Thomasville police.

Bruggner lost control of the 1992 Ford F-150 he was driving, ran off the road, overcorrected and the vehicle struck a culvert, causing it to roll and collide with a tree, Thomasville police said. Bruggner was not wearing a seat belt.

Speed was determined to the be cause of the accident, Thomasville police said.
