App State student from Winston-Salem arrested in Boone, charged with assault

BOONE, N.C. — An Appalachian State University student from Winston-Salem faces assault charges in Boone after an incident Sunday.

Jonathan Andrew Blalock, 19, is charged with felony assault by strangulation and assault on a female, according to a news release from the Boone Police Department.

On Sunday at about 4:30 a.m., Boone police responded to Watauga Medical Center where a 16-year-old female from Winston-Salem was being treated for injuries related to an assault.

Following an investigation, Blalock was arrested and taken into custody.

Blalock is being held without bond and additional charges may be filed, the release said.
