1 police sergeant killed, 1 wounded in shootout with Bronx burglary suspect
NEW YORK — A New York Police sergeant was shot and killed and another was wounded while pursuing a burglary suspect in the Bronx Friday afternoon, according to PIX11.
Police sources say the sergeants encountered the suspect when they responded to a home invasion in progress on the fifth floor of 1460 Beach Ave., in the Parkchester section of the Bronx.
The suspect then fled in a vehicle to Bronx River Avenue where he became engaged in a gun battle with both sergeants.
One sergeant was shot in the head by the suspect and later died at Jacobi Medical Center.
Another sergeant was shot more than 10 times in the legs while returning fire with the suspect. The sergeant was also transported to Jacobi Medical Center.
The suspect was shot and killed during the shootout.
