Man charged in Martinsville Speedway incident that injured 22 people

MARTINSVILLE, Va. — A man has been charged in connection with an incident at Martinsville Speedway Sunday night that injured nearly two dozen people, according to the Martinsville Bulletin.

Gary T. Edem, 65, of Fairfax, Virginia, is charged with reckless driving. Virginia State Police Communications Director Corinne Geller told the Martinsville Bulletin that additional charges could be filed.

The incident happened about 30 minutes after the race when the driver jumped the traffic line and ran into fans. Twenty-two people were injured.

Edem was placed on an unsecured $7,500 bond.

The Martinsville Bulletin reports that of those injured, some were from the Piedmont Triad, including Greensboro and Reidsville residents.
