DURHAM, N.C. — The Duke Blue Devils have been chosen as the No. 1 team in the Associated Press preseason Top 25 Men’s Basketball Poll for the 2016-2017 season, receiving a resounding 58 of the possible 65 first-place votes.

“It is always an honor to be ranked No. 1,” Krzyzewski said, according to ESPN. “We understand that no teams have played a regular-season game at this point, so many things can and often do change throughout the course of a college basketball season. Certainly, we’re excited that people think highly of our team and the ACC as a whole.”

Kentucky is second and Kansas comes in third, followed by defending champion Villanova, Oregon, North Carolina, Xavier, Virginia, Wisconsin and Arizona round out the top 10.

Duke returns three starters from last year’s team and is slated to bring in ESPN’s second-ranked recruiting class. The team made it to the Sweet 16 last year and won the NCAA championship in 2015.

This is the eighth time that Duke has held the preseason No. 1 team. North Carolina has the most preseason No. 1s with nine.
