Man hit by car, seriously injured during domestic dispute in King

KING, N.C. — A man was hit by a vehicle and seriously injured during a domestic dispute Thursday evening, according to a news release from the King Police Department.

King police and North Carolina Highway Patrol responded to the area of Westview and Pulliam streets in King Thursday evening.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a 25-year-old Virginia man was injured when he was caught between two vehicles.

John Payne, 37, of Mount Airy, intentionally drove into the passenger side of a vehicle occupied by his ex-wife, according to King police. The male victim was pinned between the two vehicles.

The victim was transported to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.

Payne was charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and driving while impaired.

A woman in Payne’s vehicle was also charged with resisting, delaying and obstructing an officer.
