Asheboro police arrest mother, her boyfriend after ‘serious assault’ on a 4-year-old child

ASHEBORO, N.C. — Asheboro police arrested a woman in connection with the Oct. 5 assault of her 4-year-old son, according to a press release.

On Oct. 6, officers arrested 31-year-old Keayone Lamont Murphy and charged him in connection with the incident. On Monday, Cheryl Dawn Flynn was arrested and charged with child abuse inflicting serious injury.

Officers initially responded to what they called a “serious assault on a child” at about 5 a.m. on Tabor Court. Investigators were on the scene for much of the morning.

Randolph County Dispatch said they received a call from Social Services regarding the incident.

There is still no word on the condition of the child but the boy was taken to Brenner Children’s Hospital in Winston-Salem.  An arrest warrant said the child suffered bleeding around the brain and swelling of the brain.

The investigation is ongoing.
