North Carolina teacher accused of sexual activity with student
KINSTON, N.C. – A North Carolina high school teacher is accused of having a sexual relationship with a student.
WCTI reported that Timothy Allen Bennett, 39, of Raleigh, faces one count each of sexual activity with a student and crime against nature.
Authorities said the incident took place when the suspect taught at South Lenoir High School during the 2015-2016 school year.
Bennett left South Lenoir in August 2016 and began working for the Wake County Public School System, according to officials.
But communication between the student and Bennett allegedly continued after he left Kinston, according to WTVD.
“This is another unfortunate case of a teacher taking advantage of a young person who is not yet prepared to make adult decisions,” said Sheriff Ronnie Ingram. “Teachers are in positions to mold our children.”
The suspect has been jailed under a $40,000 bond.
