GREENSBORO, N.C. -- StepUp Greensboro is a nonprofit organization that motivates adults who are out of work to find stability in their job by job readyness and life-skills training.

"StepUp Greensboro serves the whole community, but typical our demographic is low-income individuals ages 18 to 55," said Development Director Tammy Tierney. "Many are homeless in the sense that they may be living in a shelter or on a friend's sofa."

The program is an intense week-long curriculum that is free for participants. It's treated like a job and employees expect participants to take it seriously.
