MIAMI — Police arrested a man after doctors found 53 rubber sacks filled with cocaine inside his stomach.

The Miami Herald reports 45-year-old Waldemar Wojtczak was taken to the hospital after he collapsed at the Miami International Airport during a flight layover on Sept. 4. Surgeons say the cocaine sacks almost killed him.

The Polish man, who has since recovered, pleaded not guilty on Monday to charges of cocaine trafficking and charge of using commercial transport while committing a felony.

Reports show Wojtczak was on a flight from the island of Trinidad and waiting for his flight to Finland when he collapsed. Passport records also show he made similar trips from Poland in the past.
