HOUSTON -- A Texas mailman faces three counts of animal cruelty after he was caught on camera allegedly spraying three small dogs with pepper spray.

In the video, postal worker John Brucewayne O'Veal, 21, walks toward a Houston-area home and appears to spray the dogs with pepper spray as they approach a gate.

KTRK reports the mailman and mailbox were on the same side of the gate, and the dogs did not seem to pose a threat.

The dogs' owner, Jose Cruz, hopes O'Veal isn't fired or charged - just taught a lesson.

"I think a little community service. SPCA, that's where we got Bella. We rescued her. It hurts what he did," Cruz said.

O'Veal has a warrant out for his arrest.
