Greensboro man charged with allegedly raping woman stranded roadside in 2013

GREENSBORO, N.C. — A Greensboro man who allegedly raped a woman who ran out of gas and was stranded on the side road in 2013 has been arrested in connection with the crimes.

On Oct. 19, 2013, Fayetteville police were informed of a sexual assault that occurred when the victim was walking back to her vehicle after running out of fuel. When she got back to her vehicle, 49-year-old Robert Frederick Williams allegedly approached the woman and raped her at knifepoint.

On Oct. 7, 2016, detectives obtained a warrant for Williams’ arrest, and on Oct. 8, Williams was taken into custody by the Greensboro Police Department.

He is charged with first-degree rape, first-degree kidnapping, and sexual battery.

Williams was taken to the Guilford County Detention Center and is under a $1,000,000 bond.

The investigation is ongoing.
