GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. — A vehicle pursuit resulted in multiple crashes Monday and a suspect is in custody, according to a news release from the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office.

At 12:57 p.m., a deputy attempted to perform a traffic stop in the southeastern part of the county after observing suspicious activity at a residence, the release said.

Once a pursuit began, the suspect vehicle, a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado, was determined to be a vehicle stolen from Burlington.

The pursuit went from Liberty Road into Greensboro and the suspect was involved in several motor vehicle crashes before he was eventually stopped and captured after a brief foot chase on Elm-Eugene Street and Vandalia Road, the release said.

The driver of the suspect vehicle was identified as James Derek Morton, who was wanted by the Department of Corrections for parole violation and burglary charges, the release said.

Morton was placed in the Guilford County Jail on the parole violation and faces several other charges from the pursuit.
