SURRY COUNTY, N.C. -- This Surry County man gives old logs new life.

Kevin Thomas, known by man as "the log whisperer," is an expert woodworker.

He's worked with wood for years, but when his dad passed away, he wanted a way to pay tribute to him.

"I remember this tree that me and my dad had talked about cutting down, and I thought the tree would make a good dough bowl," he said.  So he chopped it down and created the bowl.

Next thing he knew, he won an award for his art and people began asking for dough bowls.
