LAUREL HILL, N.C. -- Long lines are forming at gas stations in eastern North Carolina following the impacts of Hurricane Matthew.

In Laurel Hill, a community about 40 miles northwest of Lumberton, people are facing wait times of as much as 20 minutes to get gas.

Many people trying to fill up in Laurel Hill on Monday afternoon tell FOX8's Chad Tucker they came from the Lumberton area, which was devastated after the Lumber River flowed over its banks causing widespread flooding.

Many of the Lumberton area residents said they weren't just coming inland for gas, but also groceries, supplies and even a place to stay for the night.
