Asheboro police arrest suspect after ‘serious assault on a child’

ASHEBORO, N.C. — Asheboro police arrested 31-year-old Keayone Lamont Murphy in connection with a serious assault on a child that occurred Wednesday morning.

Officers tell FOX8’s Nick Sturdivant they responded to an incident involving a 4-year-old child at about 5 a.m. on Tabor Court.

Randolph County Dispatch says they initially received a call from Social Services regarding the incident and investigators were on the scene for much of the morning.

There is no word on the child’s condition, but officials say the child was taken to Brenner Children’s Hospital in Winston-Salem. An arrest warrant said the child suffered bleeding around the brain and swelling of the brain.

Murphy is charged with child abuse inflicting serious injury.
