Panthers coach Ron Rivera unsure of quarterback Cam Newton’s concussion status

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Panthers coach Ron Rivera said during a press conference Monday afternoon that he's unsure of quarterback Cam Newton's status after he was placed in the concussion protocol following Sunday's 48-33 loss to the Atlanta Falcons.

Newton was hit in the fourth quarter by Falcons linebacker Deion Jones following an attempt at a two-point conversion run.

Derek Anderson came in for Newton and finished 17 for 23 with two touchdowns.

After the contest, Cam Newton passed three concussion tests, but the league is investigating if the situation was handled correctly.

The loss dropped the Panthers to 1-3 on the year. They face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers next Monday at 8:30 p.m.
