LEXINGTON, N.C. – A terminally ill Lexington man fulfilled his lifelong dream on Saturday by flying in a helicopter.

Eddie Rycroft, 59, was able to board a helicopter to view his hometown for the first time from far above.

Rycroft is a patient at Hospice of Davidson County and has terminal lung cancer. He was able to fulfill his dream thanks to the Hospice of Davidson County and Dream Foundation.

“I am so happy about this day. I’ve been dreaming about this since I was living in an orphanage,” Rycroft said. “I am thankful to have this memory with my grandsons. From high above, I was able to see the place where I grew up dreaming about flying in a helicopter. I’m so thankful for Hospice of Davidson County and the Dream Foundation for making my childhood dream come true.”
