RALEIGH, N.C. — “The Daily Show” on Comedy Central mocked North Carolina’s House Bill 2 in a recent segment involving a barbecue food truck.
The show recently came to Raleigh and set up a food truck with workers that refused to serve gay people.
Daily Show correspondent Roy Wood Jr. said he rented the truck because he wanted to “show North Carolinians what HB2 would look like in action.”
The North Carolina law, which was signed by Gov. Pat McCrory in March, nullified local government ordinances establishing anti-discrimination protections for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.
But it gained widespread attention for its stipulation requiring people in publicly owned buildings to use restrooms that correspond with the gender listed on their birth certificate.
