Former Davie Co. teacher charged with sending inappropriate pictures to students
DAVIE COUNTY, N.C. – A former Davie County teacher has been charged with sending inappropriate pictures to students.
Shannon Handy Wood, 33, was charged Thursday with statutory sex offense with a child under 15, indecent liberties with a minor, disseminating obscene material to a minor and three counts of disseminating material harmful to a minor.
The Davie County Sheriff’s Office received information on Aug. 26 that a teacher at William Ellis Middle School sent inappropriate pictures to male students, according to Sheriff Andy Stokes.
“There are inappropriate photographs that have spread by persons sharing with other persons,” Stokes said. “It has also been discovered that several students had an app disguised as a calculator that was actually a storage file for photographs.”
The school system accepted the teacher’s resignation on Aug. 30, according to Stephanie Koefoed, community relations and public information coordinator for Davie County Schools.
Parents of students involved were contacted earlier this month. The school district notified parents at Ellis Middle School and Davie High School.
