First-time political candidate Ted Budd won’t be debating his Democratic opponent for the seat the new 13th Congressional District in the weeks leading up to the Nov. 8 election.

Budd campaign manager Andrew Bell notified FOX8 and the News & Record on Tuesday that Budd, a Republican newcomer from Advance, would not debate Democratic former Guilford County commissioner Bruce Davis in a televised, hour-long forum that the media partners had planned for next month.

The campaign has other fish to fry, Bell said in a telephone interview Tuesday afternoon.

“We are focused on talking directly to undecided voters, whether it be at large gatherings or one-on-one when campaigning door to door,” Bell said.
