NC woman mistakenly brings cocaine into court
CHATHAM COUNTY, N.C. — A North Carolina woman was attempting to enter court when deputies asked her to empty her pockets to go through a screening station and they discovered a small bag of cocaine.
Officials say she emptied her pockets and placed the small, clear bag into the container. The powder tested positive for cocaine and she was arrested.
“It is our job to identify dangerous contraband and keep it from entering court facilities,” says Sgt. Colby Williams, who oversees daily operations at the Chatham County Justice Center. “We work as a team to keep visitors and court personnel safe during their time with us.”
Desiree Headen, 25, is charged with possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia after the incident.
Headen was given a $5,000 bond and has a Sept. 19 court date.
