PHOENIX -- Three Arizona police officers were injured after a car plowed into them at a convenience store early Tuesday morning.

Two officers were seriously injured while another is injured but in stable condition, according to KTAR. The driver,  44-year-old Marc LaQuon Payne, was arrested and is facing three counts of attempted murder and two counts of aggravated assault.

The officers were standing next to a marked police vehicle when Payne sped at the officers.

“At this point, it appears he deliberately ran them over,” said Phoenix Police Sgt. Jonathan Howard. "More often than not we have some indication that we’re about to get into an altercation. They were completely unaware of him until he was revving his engine and running at them.”

One officer who was seriously injured was working his first full day on the job.

Payne is in the hospital with serious injuries.
