North Carolina mother charged in death of toddler
DURHAM, N.C. — A North Carolina mother whose 3-year-old daughter was found dead in a van has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and felony child abuse/neglect.
The child’s mother, Rocio Murillo-Estrada, was arrested and charged Tuesday after a family member found Leslie Ramirez dead inside the vehicle on Aug. 29, according to WNCN.
At a press conference on Aug. 31, Murillo-Estrada said Leslie’s death was an accident.
“It was an accident. I love my daughter,” she said. “I love my daughter. A mother would not like to kill her children.”
Police say the child had been in the van since 3 p.m and the family member found her at 7 p.m.
Murillo-Estrada was taken to the Durham County Jail and is under a $50,000 bond.
