Tornado confirmed in North Carolina during Tropical Storm Hermine
CARTERET COUNTY, N.C. – The National Weather Service has confirmed that an EF-1 tornado touched down in Carteret County during Tropical Storm Hermine, according to WCTI.
The tornado touched down on Friday night. EF-1 tornadoes have wind speeds estimates at between 86 and 110 mph.
There were reports of downed trees and a home’s roof being blown off in the Marshallberg area of East Carteret.
The storm drenched the Carolinas Friday and early Saturday on its way toward the East Coast, knocking down trees and causing blackouts.
The hurricane center issued a flash flood watch for northeast South Carolina and southeast North Carolina through Saturday morning, and warned of dangerous storm surges for the Hampton Roads region in Virginia.
