School bus involved in accident on U.S. 52 in Winston-Salem
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools bus was involved in a two-vehicle accident on U.S. 52 Friday afternoon, according to a news release from Winston-Salem police.
The accident happened at about 3:30 p.m. in the northbound lanes of U.S. 52 at Germanton Road.
According to the release, a 2007 Ford Freestyle driven by 67-year-old Joseph William Brown, of Kernersville, merged in front of the bus without allowing enough clearance.
The Ford’s right rear corner clipped the left front bumper of the bus, causing the Ford to leave the roadway and go down an embankment.
Brown was not injured in the accident. A passenger in the Ford, identified as 31-year-old Ernesto Olascoaga, of Mount Airy, suffered a non-life-threatening injury to his leg and was transported to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
Brown was cited for a safe movement violation, the release said.
There were 35 students on the bus at the time of the accident in addition to the bus driver. None of the students nor the bus driver were injured.
