Winston-Salem police officer involved in crash with injuries

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A Winston-Salem police officer was involved in a crash with injuries on Thursday afternoon, according to police.

Police said it happened as Officer Phillip Yates was driving his marked police car in the 3300 block of Thomasville Road shortly after 1:30 p.m.

Officer Yates, 26, made a U-turn in front of a man heading the same direction on Thomasville Road in a 1995 Ford F-150 truck, according to police.

As the officer made the U-turn, police said his vehicle was hit by the truck. Both drivers were taken to Forsyth Medical Center for minor injuries.

During the incident, police said Officer Yates was trying to identify a vehicle that was wanted in question by the Winston-Salem Police Department.
