Suspect arrested in Burlington apartment shooting
BURLINGTON, N.C. — A suspect has been arrested in connection with a July shooting at a Burlington apartment complex.
Dennis Lee Mebane, 53, of Burlington, was arrested on Saturday at about 10:30 p.m., according to Sgt. Drew Gerringer with Burlington police.
In addition to outstanding warrants for arrest for shooting into an occupied dwelling, possession of a firearm by a felon and injury to real property, Mebane was also charged with resisting an officer and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Burlington police received a Crimestoppers tip Saturday night that Mebane was at the Walmart on South Graham Hopedale Road. Officers responded and located Mebane riding a bicycle.
Officers attempted to stop Mebane and he resisted, Gerringer said. A foot chase ensued and officers apprehended Mebane and took him into custody.
The shooting Mebane is charged in connection with happened on July 12 at Oak Pointe Apartments. At the time of the incident, Burlington police said at least two to three people starting shooting at each other just before 2 p.m.
Mebane was placed in the Alamance County Jail under a $100,000 secured bond. No trial date information has been released.
