Lightning strike kills 323 reindeer in Norway

NORWAY -- Wildlife officials in Norway say a lightning strike killed 323 wild reindeer on Friday.

The Local Norway reports that an official was on a routine inspection when he stumbled upon the scene.

"They were lying there dead in a fairly concentrated area. Reindeer are pack animals and are often close together. During a heavy thunderstorm, they may have gathered even closer together out of fear,” said Norwegian Nature Inspectorate spokesman Knut Nylend, according to the Local Norway.

Authorities are investigating the event and it is not known what they will do with all of the reindeer bodies.

The Local Norway's Facebook page published a post with creepy images of the mass event Monday morning.
