NC teen drowns in Rowan County quarry
ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — A 16-year-old North Carolina teenager drowned at Balfour Quarry in Rowan County Sunday morning.
Those present at the time of the incident say Shavice Tandy attempted to swim across the quarry when he became fatigued and began to struggle in the water. Police say he was last seen about 60 yards from the bank.
Emergency crews received a drowning call at 11:50 a.m. and found the teen’s body at about 1:20 p.m.
WSOC reports that residents say Balfour Quarry has water up to 100-feet deep.
