BURLINGTON, N.C. — A man who was attempting to rob a Citgo in Burlington was arrested and charged after police found him hiding in the ceiling crawl space Tuesday night.

The gas station’s clerk called police at about 10:50 p.m. because she believed someone went into the restroom and climbed into the ceiling to wait until the store closed in an attempt to steal from it.

After a failed attempt to locate the man on the ground, police removed several ceiling tiles and used a ladder to gain access to an area above the office, where they found Benjamin Demitrious Burrough huddled in a corner.

He was immediately arrested and charged with felony breaking and entering, felony possession of burglary tools and misdemeanor injury to real property for the damage to the ceiling tiles. He was taken to the Alamance County Jail on a $10,000 bond.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Burlington Police Department at (336) 229-3500.
