Thomasville Kmart to close in mid-November
THOMASVILLE, N.C. — The Thomasville Kmart located at 1122 Randolph St. is set to close to the public in mid-November.
Howard Riefs, director of corporate community for Sears Holdings, said the store is set to begin its liquidation sale on Aug. 25.
“Store closures are part of a series of actions we’re taking to reduce on-going expenses, adjust our asset base, and accelerate the transformation of our business model,” Riefs said in an email Tuesday afternoon. “The number of associates is not publically available. The associates that are eligible will receive severance and have the opportunity to apply for open positions at Sears or Kmart stores. Most of the associates are part time/hours.”
The Thomasville Kmart opened in the mid-1970s and was first located in the Southgate Shopping Center. It moved in the 1980s to its current location.
The closing leaves just 23 Kmart stores in North Carolina.
