High Point Central football player shot Monday night

HIGH POINT, N.C. -- A High Point Central High School football player was shot Monday night.

Bryan Maynard, 16, was shot at 210 Kenilworth Drive about 10:30 p.m., according to police. He was taken to High Point Regional Medical Center by a private vehicle, then later taken to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. He's expected to survive.

Officers were initially called to the emergency room and had to backtrack to the scene for more information.

The investigation is ongoing and authorities are interviewing witnesses.

Maynard plays on the High Point Central High School varsity football team. MaxPreps lists him as a junior.
